An aspiring photographer develops an intimate relationship with an older woman.
This was a lovely story. It wasn't breathtaking to me, but I understand why it got a standing ovation at Cannes Film Festivals press screening. It is not the ordinary "boy meets girl"-story (or in this case, "girl meets girl") and the actors were brilliant. Cate Blanchett was (as usual) amazing as the socialite Carol, and Rooney Mara was a perfect fit as the shy Therese Belivet.
Therese Belivet: I don't know what I want. How could I know what I want if I say yes to everything?
Fun fact is that this movie was shot on Super 16 mm film, just so that they could resemble the look and feel of film from this time-period. Isn't that just wonderful? I did not know that until after I watched it, but I could feel it. Movies shot analogic gets a completely different feel to them according to me.
This is really something to watch. It is a brilliant script and everything feels natural and sincere.
